Karen Kaminski-Esala, LCSW
Owner/Clinician

Welcome to Open Water Wellness, PLLC in Jacksonville, NC and Swansboro, NC where we provide Counseling for New Beginnings. I’m Karen Kaminski Esala, LCSW, owner of this practice. I believe that every new beginning opens onto endless horizons. That image lives for me in a Crystal Coast sunset: the sun lowering over the water, the day ending, and the sea and sky still wide with possibility.

If you feel stuck, disconnected, or tired of repeating the same patterns, you are not alone. I bring a practical, supportive approach to therapy and use humor when it helps the work feel more human. I listen closely, offer thoughtful feedback, and create a personable yet professional space where real change can happen.

I have spent more than 15 years in mental health, beginning as a school counselor in Virginia’s public schools and with the Department of War Education Activity at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. That work taught me how much the right support, clear advocacy, and a steady relationship can change a person’s path. I still teach, serving as an adjunct faculty member at Bryant & Stratton College in Human and Social Service, because I believe good counseling and good teaching share the same aim: meet people where they are and help them take the next step.

I primarily work with adults in the Jacksonville and Swansboro area, including military-connected individuals and older adults. Years of practice in Onslow County have given me a clear understanding of the culture, the tempo, and the particular pressures that come with service life. New beginnings are our shared chance to leave behind what no longer serves us and step toward what comes next.

At Open Water Wellness, PLLC I provide individual counseling for depression, anxiety, codependency, grief, caregiving, and life transitions. In-person therapy is available at our Jacksonville, NC office and our Swansboro, NC office, with telehealth for clients in North Carolina and Virginia. The work is collaborative and practical drawing on approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), person-centered therapy, and solution-focused therapy so you leave with both insight and a clear next step.

Thank you for considering Open Water Wellness, PLLC. If you are ready to begin, I will meet you with care, honesty, and a plan we build together. A free 15-minute consultation is available if you’d like to see whether we are a good fit.

I am Eileen, a dedicated and experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and I am proud to serve the Jacksonville, NC, area. I have been honored to work in the field of Social Work for the past 39 years, supporting diverse clients through various stages of life. A significant part of my recent professional history includes four impactful years as a Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) serving the Camp Lejeune community, which has provided me with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by service members, veterans, and their families. My extensive background also includes 24 years in Child Welfare, 11 years as a hospice social worker providing end-of-life reconciliation, and working with individuals coping with chronic mental illness, kidney dialysis, and geriatric care. I received my undergraduate degree from Purdue University and my Master’s Degree from Indiana University South Bend.

My clinical practice focuses primarily on helping adults and couples who are seeking practical, effective solutions for issues related to anxiety and depression. I firmly believe that the couple relationship is the bedrock of the family, and I am passionate about using a solution-focused approach to enhance communication and connection, leading to stronger, more resilient families. My years of experience have reinforced my belief in a truly holistic approach to wellness. I stress the importance of clean living through healthy habits—such as mindful eating, exercise, and positive neurological interactions in nature—to improve overall quality of life for you and your family. By adopting this whole-person philosophy, I aim to empower parents and adults to model these positive tools for their children, setting the stage for lifelong success and happiness.

I currently offer appointments during the week and on Saturdays at Open Water Wellness, PLLC. I am here to assist you in finding lasting solutions and effective methods to improve your quality of life and strengthen your family unit.

Hey there, I’m Mandy, and I’m all about diving into the world of counseling to help kids discover their awesome potential. Growing up can be a real adventure, especially in today’s world, so I’m all about being that friendly face and listening ear for young ones, teens, and young adults as they navigate life’s twists and turns.

A bit about me: I’m currently rocking the role of a part-time school counselor, proudly carrying the title of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHC-A). Plus, I’m a Nationally Certified Counselor with over 25 years of experience hanging out with kiddos in various capacities. Every morning, I’m psyched to jump into my day, getting to know my clients and cheering them on to greatness.

What keeps me going? Making a positive impact and helping others. There’s nothing like the joy of seeing someone I’ve supported hit a goal or take a big step in their personal growth journey. It’s the good stuff in life.

Now, let’s talk approach. Mental health is a big deal, and finding the right support is key. I’m all about treating the whole person – it’s like how a doctor wouldn’t just tackle a fever without figuring out what’s causing it. Counseling is a similar deal; we dig deep to uncover what might be holding us back from being our absolute best.

Ready to kick off your own journey of self-discovery? If you or your kiddo are up for it, don’t be shy – reach out, and let’s set up a time to chat. I’m here to be your biggest cheerleader every step of the way!
